Brooks Reach Building adventure

Come with us now on a tale of the mighty house building.

2 more sleeps (and then keys will be ours. MUHAHAHAA!!)

Keys Keys Keys Keys sung to tune of:
WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Our bank released the funds early Thursday and after several calls/emails to our CSC and Clarendon accounts department on Friday it was confirmed around 2pm that they had received our final payment! Our SS called hubs and booked in Handover for Monday. He had our keys with him but not the fancy handover leather book thing they give out. SS also has arranged for our appliances to be installed Monday morning before we get keys so that’s nice.

We went for a quick drive out to Brooks Reach yesterday afternoon to check in on the tiling. We really love the tile we chose and how it’s all blending well together (obviously the grout still needs to be done)

The tiler has done a great job so far considering it’s only him working on them. He told the SS he should be done by Sunday.. BUT he wasn’t onsite at all today so this makes us a bit worried.
Tiler needs to be done by Monday morning so Clarendon’s painter can pop in on Monday morning and finish the nib walls in the kitchen. SS is also having our appliances installed on Monday before handover too. 🙂 woo!! South Coast Floor Coverings were meant to be installing carpet on Monday, but last week they pushed it back to Tuesday and when we rang to confirm yesterday they’ve now told us Thursday is the earliest :S We’re getting a bit frustrated with them now as they just aren’t consistent in what they say. We’ve let them know that we’re actually moving in on Wednesday and won’t really be setting up furniture in the rooms for one day just to try and move it out the next for their carpet layer. Hopefully that gets sorted and they keep their original agreement with us.

We’ve organised for our gas/electricity to be switched over to AGL, organised our mail redirection, having the NBN connected on the 26th (WOOTWOOTWOOT) arranged a cancellation date for our services in this apartment .. we had a very productive afternoon yesterday haha.
Today we also went out and purchased some more furniture, a lovely Bosch dishwasher and a bunch of other random things for the house. It still doesn’t feel real though!

There are still minor issues with the home that we’ll take note of when we sign for the keys on Monday: *scratched sliding door *kitchen cabinet still away being repaired *back stop tiling still uneven *bathroom cabinet door not aligned *Lightbulbs/shades not installed yet.
These are just the few things we saw while we were onsite for 20mins 🙂 hopefully most of it will be fixed before we get keys.

Locked up, Lockin’ good!

What is up with this weather? Crazy storm the Illawarra is having. A timely reminder how thankful we are that our house has finally reached lock up stage Oh yeah! Rain can’t keep the builders away now!!!

Hubby and I did a quick trip out on Sunday to visit the lot and confirm that we had reached lock up stage. Happily (or is that sadly?) we couldn’t get inside but here is a lovely picture of our front door
Door (It will be painted Colorbond ‘Bushland’)

On Friday Shrimpy advised us that wet floor tiles are due to be delivered this week. Carpenter has been in wet areas and installed doors so that the tiles can be laid when delivered.

  • Second and final stage of waterproofing has been completed (this relates to nail penetration, angles across pipes etc)
  • Carpenter will install skirting and architraves sometime this week too. Today I confirmed a time with Wynstan to meet onsite this week for the check measure for our Plantation Shutters! Hubby will attempt to arrange a meet up with South Coast Floor Coverings for the same time so we can get it all done at once.
  • Other internal doors have been delivered and are currently in the master bedroom waiting to be installed this week.
  • Kitchen is being installed Monday/Tuesday (this is what I am most excited about)

Hopefully we’ll be able to snap some photos when we’re onsite.

GypROCKed tour of our home

I have had another crazy busy weekend/week with a million things going on BUT now I finally have time to share with you all that we have gyprocking (dry walls) installed!

We did an early morning visit on Saturday 15th June and were greeted by this beauty
Garage

I can’t wait to see it when the garage door is on.  Oh and speaking of doors, our SS advised us last week that door deliveries by ‘Corinthian Doors’ only take place in Horsley on Tuesdays and Thursday and he estimated our doors would be delivered on Thursday. Clarendon’s carpenter is meant to be onsite on Friday(today) to install the doors.

Now, for a little tour of our place

Gutters, and fascia, and roof! Oh, my!

We headed out to our lot yesterday after a beautiful weekend away with our Bible Study group in Killcare (Central Coast region). It was a beautiful 20 degrees (only a week until winter hits too.)

Sad to say there was no roof up yet, BUT there were roof tiles and battens ready to be installed. Our bricks have also had a beautiful spray clean 😀

We are loving the gutters and fascia and can’t wait to see it all together when the eaves, downpipes and roof are installed.

So we were originally meant to move the bricks today after work but the SS called on Friday and said not to bother as there were several delays on the house due to wet and windy weather last week. There was still scaffolding and the roof tiles in the way so SS said we could move the bricks once they head inside to work in a few weeks. It all worked out in the end as Hubby and I came down with terrible colds so we would not have been very productive anyway.

SS advised Lock up should be less than 3weeks away now 🙂 Lovely Nat over on Homeone mentioned on the forum today that they were busy working away on the roof with a cute little conveyor belt delivering the tiles onto the roof!Cheer
