Brooks Reach Building adventure

Come with us now on a tale of the mighty house building.

About

We’re a young Australian-American couple and this is a blog all about building our first home. For a step-by-step timeline click here.
R&B

We are building the Kenthurst 24 (now known as the Kentville 24) with Clarendon Homes. It’s a beautiful 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with a gorgeous open kitchen.

If you have any questions about our home building experience, or any general questions feel free to comment on any of our posts and we will provide as much info we can.

The best advice we can offer at a glance is document everything, keep every little flyer/promotion/brochure and get everything in writing. You can never be too prepared. Read forums like http://forum.homeone.com.au/ for more home building advice.

We’ve compiled a list of helpful applications and websites here.

For our regular cooking (& sometimes sewing) blog check out sew, cook, create.

Hi there, my husband and I have just put a deposit down on a block in Brooks Reach aswell, just trying to do as much research as we can to be try to try to avoid any nasty surprises, Google is my go to for everything 😉 and I keep being drawn to your posts and blog, already your experience has been a great help! You are so organised. The home forum seems time be down today, so sorry to drop in on your blog. Just wondering I’m trying to get as much info as I can on fire ratings as ours is one if the unlucky BAL40 ones. I seen u mentioned in a blog that someone else got their bal40 downgraded. Do you happen to know how they went about it 🙂

Hi Kristel. Welcome to Brooks Reach =)
Unfortunately I do not know how they went about over turning the rating; just that they paid for a bushfire assessment report to be carried out by a company of their choosing.
If your property is facing the woodland reserve directly I don’t think you’ll have much luck. But as people on the forum have said if it could save you thousands of dollars it doesnt hurt to check.
